The Kangaroo Kid

Based on Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories, using the translation by Dóra Elekes and Endre Greskovits
Performed by: Katalin Homonnai, Lajos Spilák · Music: Lajos Spilák · Poems: Flóra Gál · Director, designer: Ilona Németh
The hero of the story is a kangaroo kid unlike everyone else, unlike anyone else, and therefore rejected by his peers. The story follows his search for identity and his journey toward finding himself. In this sense it is also a continuation of our production The Curious Little Elephant, which is likewise based on a Kipling story.
The visual world evokes a flip-through storybook. The varied landscapes and animals appearing on handmade paper recall Monet, Gauguin and other Impressionists. The material is specially made handmade paper with pressed leaves and flowers. The structure of the storybook forming the space allows a multitude of movable figures to appear. It naturally continues the visual language of our production Kacskaringó, developing the metamorphosis of objects through animation. The music is a live montage of instrumental and vocal sounds and sounds produced by objects.
As critic Sándor Radnóti wrote of a similar Stúdió K production for young children: “…its extraordinary taste is what first strikes the adult…”
